| Facts
: Chinchilla’s are small mammals native
to South America in the rocky terrain of the Andes Mountain
range. They live in small family groups among large
colonies. Chinchilla’s have very thick, soft,
dense fur to protect them against the cold conditions
of living in such high altitudes (each hair follicle
has between 60-80 strands growing from it). In the wild
they keep there coats clean by rolling around their
burrow floors, but in captivity this is supplemented
by sand baths. They have large black eyes, round prominent
ears and long muscular hind limbs to help detect predators
and to be able to make a quick escape. The chinchilla’s
main diet is rough foliage such as hay, and they enjoy
the odd piece of dried fruit as a treat. They are mainly
active at night, but do like to bask in the early morning
sunrise and the evening sunset. Due to predation they
live on average for 10 years, but have been known to
live up to 20 years in captivity. |

Stan
was found on the street of India at just 12 weeks of
age. Newly wed travellers Sarah and Troy originally
from Australia saved his young life and brought him
into the UK.
They plan to work and travel around England for a few
years before returning home.
His personality has grown over the 6 month quarantine
period and so has he!
